Like many of you reading this, I feel like I’m a creative person. I thought, if so many people out there are creating digital products and selling them, surely I could. Well, the problem was I had no idea where to start or what even to create. It wasn’t until I deep-dove into endless posts and articles on digital products that I discovered how many options there were. From e-books to online courses to digital artwork, I realized there were endless opportunities to earn passive income from the comfort of my own home. Now, I'm excited to share my beginner's guide to creating and selling digital products with you, so you can turn your passion into profit too.

In this post you will learn how to:

  1. Identify Your Niche and Audience

  2. Choose the Right Digital Product Format

  3. Create Compelling and Valuable Content

  4. Set Up an E-Commerce Platform

  5. Market and Sell Your Digital Products

Step One: Identify Your Niche Audience
Before diving into product creation, take the time to identify your niche and target audience. What are you passionate about? Who are you creating your products for?

Popular niches are travel, fashion, tech, parenting, finance, fitness, pets, and food.

When choosing a niche, I’d highly recommend choosing something you’re interested so that your content comes across as authentic and not sales-y. When I first started looking into affiliate marketing I was focusing on fashion because those were the types of people I follow and engage with, and tbh it seemed like they were making GREAT money. The problem? I‘m not super into fashion. Sure, I love shopping and am definitely influenced easily by Instagram, but it’s not my passion. So, obviously, I changed paths pretty quickly.

Step Two: Choose the Right Digital Product Format
Digital products come in various formats, including e-books, online courses, printables, templates, and digital downloads. Consider your expertise, resources, and audience preferences when choosing the right format for your products. For example, if you're a skilled writer, an e-book might be the perfect format to showcase your knowledge and expertise. If you're a visual artist, digital artwork or printable designs could be your forte. Love to travel? Create travel itineraries! Choose a format that aligns with your strengths and resonates with your audience.

I would highly suggest creating all of your digital products in Canva. It’s simply the best and easiest platform to use.

HERE ARE JUST A FEW OPTIONS:

  1. Quote Cards: Design inspirational or motivational quote cards for social media posts or digital wallpapers.

  2. E-Book Covers: Design professional-looking covers for e-books, guides, or digital reports.

  3. Instagram Story Templates: Design customizable templates for Instagram Stories, including polls, quizzes, and countdowns.

  4. Printable Planners: Create printable planners for daily, weekly, or monthly use, including planners for productivity, fitness, meal planning, etc.

  5. Printable Wall Art: Design printable wall art with quotes, illustrations, or designs for home decor.

  6. Infographics: Create visually appealing infographics to present data, statistics, or information in a digestible format.

  7. YouTube Thumbnails: Design custom thumbnails for YouTube videos.

  8. Business Cards: Design personalized business cards for networking or promotional purposes.

  9. Presentation Slides: Create professional-looking presentation slides for webinars, workshops, or online courses.

  10. Social Media Graphics: Create eye-catching graphics for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Step Three: Create Compelling and Valuable Content
The key to successful digital products lies in creating compelling and valuable content that solves a problem or fulfills a need for your audience. Take the time to brainstorm ideas, research topics, and plan out your content strategy. No matter what format you choose, focus on providing high-quality content that educates, inspires, or entertains your audience. Remember, the more value you provide, the more likely your audience will be to purchase and recommend your products to others. To create digital products, I will ALWAYS recommend Canva. It’s user-friendly and easy to use.

Step Four: Set Up an E-Commerce Platform
Once you've created your digital products, it's time to set up an e-commerce platform to sell them. There are many platforms available, including Creative Market, Shopify, Etsy, Gumroad, and Teachable, that make it easy to showcase and sell your products online. You could even set-up your own website and sell your digital products. I love Squarespace for this! Choose a platform that suits your needs and budget, and customize your storefront to reflect your brand and offerings. Don't forget to optimize your product listings with compelling descriptions, eye-catching visuals, and clear pricing to attract potential buyers.

Step Five: Market and Sell Your Digital Products
Finally, it's time to market and sell your digital products to your target audience. Utilize various marketing channels, including social media, especially Pinterest, email marketing, content marketing, and influencer collaborations, to promote your products and reach a wider audience. I would use Canva to create eye-catching pins that others will want to click or repin. Offer special promotions, discounts, or freebies to incentivize purchases and encourage repeat business. For example, with every purchase include 3 free quote-art printables. Don't be afraid to experiment with different marketing strategies and track your results to see what works best for your business.
